Trail Boss has pushed forward the idea of ‘rolling maintenance’, or the collective efforts of individuals to maintain mountain trails for running and cycling before conditions get to the point where organized action is required. This push in priority allows organizations to focus their resources on the problems that are out of reach for the individual. Namely trail access and advocacy.
We recap the fun had at SDMBA’s Ride the Rancho event in San Diego and announce our Trail Boss trail tools giveaway, courtesy of 911 Law. We also discuss some upcoming Spring Classic races and the predictions for favorites to win. In the post-show we answer questions of frugality when shopping for bicycle gear.
SDMBA’s Ride the Rancho was a fully supported, 15-mile scenic tour through Rancho Guejito, a 36 square-mile private ranch that has been altogether closed to public access for over its more than 150 year ownership. All manner of bikes were on display, gravel and mountain bikes, as well as some electric-powered.

SDMBA continues its strong alliance with the proud team of City of San Diego rangers at Black Mountain. Shovels finally hit the ground on the Black Widow Trail on December 1, 2018. This first work day attracted almost 80 volunteers, many of them first timers! There will be many more work days before this project is complete so check SDMBA channels for updates.
With much needed rain in the forecast, including the possibility of thunderstorms, the spirit in the air for the weekend-long SDMBA Mount Laguna Trail Fest presented by Zoic Clothing was nothing but positivity and cheer.
