David Figueroa and Sean Heck, the owners of Sunset Cycles, hung out with us on a February afternoon at the shop in the Claremont Packing House. Sunset Cycles is a service-oriented shop with a select few bikes for purchase, and since their opening in December 2015, David and Sean’s goal has always been to be “better than your average shop”. They both have backgrounds in steel and ironwork, but have always had an interest in bike culture. We discuss a bit about their thoughts on the current state of BMX culture and the recent news of Dave Mirra’s death. They tell us why they think that stocking major bike brands isn’t the most important factor in servicing their customers, and what they think the best material on bikes is. We learned a lot from these guys (especially when they were talkin’ shop) and it’s clear that they love bikes. They’ve set up a couple of shop rides during the week; on Tuesday nights they host a 10-15 mile social ride starting at the shop at 7:00 pm, and on Sunday they leave the shop to ride Glendora Mountain Road at 7:30 a.m.
