Even though I warm up very easily while exercising, sometimes it does get cold enough in Orange County for me to need a mid-layer on early morning or night rides. The Escape Thermal Jersey from Pearl Izumi was a great solution for me, being thin and breathable, I didn’t get overheated after my body warmed up. The material is light, soft, and flexible, giving a very comfortable feel while riding with an excellent fit around my torso and arms (I’ve actually worn it off-bike many times).
The full-length front zipper is easy to use with one hand, allowing on-the fly adjustments for ventilation, and the back features 3 pockets for additional storage. The very bottom of the back of the jersey has an elastic band with a silicone strip inside that keeps the jersey quite secure on your back – especially handy while wearing my Osprey Radial 26 during commutes.
Pearl Izumi’s new lines feature many reflective additions with the P.R.O. Escape Thermal Jersey having reflectors on the sides, rear, and arms. For women, Pearl Izumi’s new Elite Pursuit line is the equivalent, and we will have a follow-up post with that jersey as well. For those who need just a little bit extra warmth, this is an excellent option!
