Castelli introduces their most versatile range of jerseys and bib shorts for their Summer 2018 collection. Whether you’re going on a mid-day long ride when it’s a scorcher out, suiting up for race day, or simply looking for utility and comfort to be at ease during the Sunday group ride — with many of these products influenced and proven by Team Sky these summer offerings have the performance to back up the good looks.

2018 Summer Collection

Entrata 3 FZ

This jersey was developed specifically for Team Sky riders to use in training. It is designed with an amazing new cut combined with extensive fabric development to make a jersey that fits rights, stays dry and always looks good. The only thing missing is the phenomenal aerodynamics; nonetheless, some Team Sky riders continue asking if they can race in it.

PRODUCT FEATURES:

  • Prosecco GT main body fabric wicks moisture away
  • Sublimated stretch mesh with raw-cut edge at arm openings
  • Mesh side panels and shoulder stretch zones for great fit
  • Full-length YKK® Vislon® zipper
  • 3 rear pockets
  • Reflective heat-transfer viz strips for visibility
  • Weight:149g
  • MSRP: $80

Pro Mesh Short Sleeve

The Pro Mesh is made for the widest range of conditions and is designed to keep you dry in cool to mild temperatures. Castelli has given it a graphic print for a bit of style and flavor when you zip your jersey down.

PRODUCT FEATURES:

  • 3D mesh fabric for excellent moisture
  • Sublimated print graphic
  • Waist hem stays flat under shorts
  • Weight:46g

Podio Doppio FZ

The Podio Doppio retains features from previous collections such as the drop pocket and the overlap collar to protect the neck. The inset sleeves and proper collar also remain, which give it something of a classic, traditional look. Of course, it got the easy sliding YKK® Vislon® zipper with a Scorpion zipper pull and an updated gripper elastic to keep the jersey in place.

PRODUCT FEATURES:

  • Prosecco GT main body fabric wicks moisture away
  • Weight:142g
  • MSRP: $100
  • Full-length YKK® Vislon® zipper
  • 3 rear pockets

Premio Bibshort

The best short for your longest ride. It is meant to accommodate the long ride where you’re demanding something extra from your legs. Most Castelli products are made for racing and lean towards minimalism. This short goes the other way by giving a bit more compression in the legs, an extra compression band around the lower back, and comes up a bit higher in front to hold everything in.

PRODUCT FEATURES

  • Forza fabric with 38% Lycra® content for the perfect fit
  • 3D mesh breathable lumbar support band
  • Reduced seaming for more comfort
  • Raw-edge leg ending with vertical silicone grippers
  • Bonded flat ergonomic bib straps for extra comfort
  • Embossed Castelli shadow wordmark
  • Progetto X2 Air seat pad
  • Weight:201g
  • MSRP: $250

Velocissimo IV Bibshort

Velocissimo is Italian for fast, very fast. But this short is focused on comfort, so it’ll just seem like you get there faster. Castelli has given it a new anatomical shape that moves stitching away from areas that can bother the rider, and they have even managed to completely eliminate the leg-ending elastic band by borrowing technology they developed for the Premio short. The KISS Air seat pad is the choice of some of the Team Sky riders, so it’ll stand up to your 200-kilometer rides.

PRODUCT FEATURES

  • Anatomically constructed for exceptional fit and comfort in Pro Dry Soft fabric
  • New Doppio waistband for extra stretch around the stomach area
  • KISS Air seat pad for all-day comfort
  • Raw-cut leg ending with silicone vertical gripper keeps short leg in place without pressure
  • Flat-lock stitching
  • Reflective heat-transfer viz strips for visibility
  • Weight:168g
  • MSRP: $130

The Maserati of Bicycles (Literally)

Maserati, the Italian luxury car manufactures, have had brief encounters with the cycling industry in the past, but are now increasing their involvement with the sport beginning this year. In the 1970’s they created a few Maserati model bicycles, though traces of those are difficult to find now, and in 2009 they released two different models designed by legendary Italian bike-makers Milani Cycles.

(Christoph Bayer) SRAM AXS – 13 Good Reasons Why Electronic Components on Bikes Are the Future | The Slow Death of ‘Buy It For Life’

We see the bike media et. al. falling over themselves to encourage a public dependence on component electronics. And both ebikes and component electronics have an intrinsic designed obsolescence, by virtue of these systems having a limited number of battery cycles. There won’t be ‘vintage’ drivetrains in 20 years as none of the batteries will be usable. I have a birthday coming up, maybe I’m being overly nostalgic to consider this.
